Creative Direction

The creative concept was built around the idea of shared discovery, celebrating the unique bond between people and their pets as a gateway to meaningful science. We combined a warm, optimistic tone with a visual language that felt both credible and inviting. Organic shapes, friendly typography, and real participant stories grounded the experience in humanity, while subtle data-driven cues reminded users of the science they were part of. The result was a brand that felt open, trustworthy, and genuinely collaborative.

The Challenge

Percona’s primary challenge was migrating thousands of pages of extensive, product‑rich content to a new CMS without downtime or loss of functionality. With more than fifteen distinct product offerings and multiple internal teams contributing content, the existing site had grown fragmented, making it hard for users to find what they needed quickly.

 

A360Z worked with Percona’s internal software teams to unify the platform, streamline navigation, and preserve the unique identity of each product. The goal was to build a cohesive, scalable experience that would support future growth, improve usability, and strengthen Percona’s presence as a technology leader.

Percona engaged A360Z to migrate the site to a modern content management platform and reimagine the digital experience in a way that better reflects the company’s innovation and commitment to its community.

Our approach began with a comprehensive content audit to organize and categorize thousands of pages. This audit provided clarity on which content to keep, consolidate, or revise, setting the stage for a streamlined editing and navigation framework.

 

Through collaboration with Percona’s teams, we uncovered the innovation threading through the product suite — each product has its own strengths while fitting into a unified ecosystem. Visually, this concept was represented with the main brand’s apex logo and seven extension marks that communicate both unity and individuality. We also incorporated color systems and design elements inspired by blockchain geometry to reinforce Percona’s tech‑forward identity.

 

The strategy ensured that the new site would serve both the community’s needs and Percona’s long‑term objectives, positioning content and interactions around clarity, discoverability, and engagement.

Experience Design + Development

Percona’s audience is highly technical, fast, and goal oriented. On the previous site, text overload and unclear pathways slowed users down and created friction. To address this, we introduced a robust system of visual elements and information hierarchy designed to increase engagement and comprehension.

 

We created over 50 bespoke static icons and more than 20 interactive motion icons to support key interactions, enriching the visual language and helping guide users through dense information. Dynamic geometric backgrounds and overlapping layouts provided visual energy without distraction, inviting exploration while maintaining clarity.

 

A major usability improvement was our solution for software version discovery. Many users already know what they want, but finding the right download for their environment was difficult. We redesigned product download sections with a clear tabular layout and consolidated all versions for all operating systems in one centralized location, allowing for single‑click access without confusion.

 

The new site was built to elevate Percona’s SEO, support efficient content organization, and ensure long‑term scalability. The modern CMS enables Percona to update content quickly and remain agile in a rapidly changing digital landscape.

The Results

The redesigned Percona site delivers a unified and modern digital experience that supports the company’s leadership in open‑source database technology. Content is now easier to manage and navigate, providing immediate value to developers and enterprise users alike. Visual language, interaction patterns, and structural clarity reinforce Percona’s tech‑forward identity and help drive user engagement.
