MIT Media Lab HealthPULSE
MIT Media Lab is one of the world’s leading research institutions at the intersection of technology, science, and human experience. The Lab engaged A360Z to help translate a complex AI-driven research initiative into a functional and engaging digital platform. The goal was to demonstrate how artificial intelligence can support public health communication in a fragmented media landscape.

The Challenge
MIT Media Lab’s research team had developed advanced systems for tracking, analyzing, and interpreting how health narratives move through digital channels. The challenge was turning this technical foundation into a public-facing experience that feels clear, credible, and accessible.
We needed to visualize how information spreads, where it breaks down, and how it can be corrected. The platform had to inform without overwhelming and build trust without oversimplifying the science. It also had to connect with a wide range of users, from researchers to the general public.

Digital Strategy
Our strategic goal was to create a public-facing platform that could communicate the depth of the Media Lab’s AI work while remaining accessible to a broad audience. Through research and collaboration with the MIT team, we developed the concept and structure for what would become Healthpulse.
The platform was designed to function as a responsive system that observes, interprets, and acts on the flow of public health information. The strategy focused on clarity, transparency, and relevance. We prioritized a structure that could support both data-driven insights and narrative storytelling, making it easy for users to understand how the system works and why it matters. This foundation shaped every aspect of the experience, from content hierarchy to interaction design.
Experience Design
HealthPULSE was created to function as both a narrative tool and an interactive interface. The site introduces the problem of fragmented health communication and guides users through how the platform addresses it. Interaction and motion help illustrate how narratives form, evolve, and gain influence.
To support this story, we developed a custom illustration system that visualizes how health messages and misinformation move through networks. These abstract, dynamic visuals help users understand the flow and impact of information in a fragmented media environment. The style balances scientific credibility with human-centered clarity, reinforcing the platform’s tone and purpose.
The interface itself reflects the intelligence and integrity of the MIT Media Lab. Clean design, clear hierarchy, and focused interaction patterns create a user experience that feels purposeful and accessible. Color and typography are used with restraint to guide attention, while the overall layout supports exploration without distraction. The experience is designed to make complex systems feel both understandable and actionable.

Results
The HealthPULSE platform launched as a powerful expression of the MIT Media Lab’s vision for modern public health communication. It transformed a complex AI research initiative into a clear, engaging tool for both researchers and the public. By visualizing how information spreads and where it breaks down, the platform supports deeper understanding and more effective response strategies.
HealthPULSE continues to serve as a bridge between science and society, helping public health leaders navigate the evolving media landscape with greater insight and impact. It demonstrates how thoughtful design can turn advanced research into real-world utility, making critical systems more transparent, trusted, and usable.
